Loved for its versatility and volume, it’s no surprise the Louis Vuitton Neverfull has earned icon status.
A Very Short History Of: The Louis Vuitton Neverfull
When it was launched in 2007, Louis Vuitton introduced the Neverfull as a seasonal beach bag, but it quickly became the iconic staple you see today.
Why? Simply because the Neverfull is quite literally never full! It holds everything you need making it perfect for travel, day to day use or even a changing bag.
Fashion lore states that the Neverfull was originally created to compete with the Goyard Saint Louis tote, which had been around since the 1930s. The two have similar styles, but it didn’t take long for the Neverfull to surpass the Saint Louis in popularity.
It’s thought that the Neverfull bags take over 45 hours to create and are reinforced with double stitching and thick over-stitched chapes. This means the bags are able to support a lot of weight, up to 90kg. The side laces can be tightened to create a more compact bag.
The striped interior of the Neverfull bags recall to Louis Vuitton’s history of travel and their original trunks. Newer versions of the Neverfull have much brighter linings and the zipped clutch can be carried as a separate pochette.
Did you know that the Neverfull is actually reversible? The structure and lining of the bag, along with the quality craftsmanship you expect for Louis Vuitton, allow the bag to be reversed and used as normal.
The Louis Vuitton Neverfull have only been created in three sizes: PM, MM and GM.
# PM / Petit Modele. This is the smallest size and measures 29 x 21 x 12cm. Ideal for daily use, without the need to fit larger items.
# MM / Moyen Modele. The medium size, measuring 37 x 29 x 17cm. The MM is the ideal size for everyday use and will easily fit a laptop.
# GM / Grand Modele. The largest of the range, measuring 40 x 33 x 20cm. The GM is perfect for travel and using as hand luggage.
One of the most popular tote bags in the LV brand, the Neverfull has been released in a range of materials, colours and prints including Epi leather, Monogram, Damier and Mini Lin. It’s also spawned a number of Limited Edition versions by Yoyoi Kusama, Stephen Sprouse and Kansai Yamamoto to name a few.
The Louis Vuitton Neverfull is a must-have in your collection.
